After being tired of renting from landlords who couldn't keep up with the properties, I decided I wanted to travel down the road of home-ownership. I have always been fascinated with houses.. everything about them.. With that said, I've been "looking" since I was a teenager. I knew the things I liked in a home.. Now that I'm older with a family, I know the things we need in a home. Things like the number of bathrooms, bedrooms, kitchen space, etc.
I searched and searched. I could never find something that would satisfy the needs and at least touch on a couple wants, all while staying under a max budget I feel comfortable with. This is what sparked the building idea.
Now that I am out of college and have landed a predictable paying job, I feel comfortable reaching for my goals.
We live in a relatively small town, even county of Ohio, so there isn't much around as far as custom builders for the "not-rich". I started doing research around the area looking for all the needs, with some wants under budget. I looked at the top three of this area and decided to go with Wayne Homes.
Wayne Homes has a model center close to where we currently live. I also like the fact that there is a lot of information on their site and have an easy process for answering questions.
At the time of the initial planning there were 6 people living in our home. My then fiancé (husband now) and I, and 4 of our children, ages 2-19. Our family dynamic is always changing as we take in whoever needs a home at the time. Currently my adult sister lives with us.
Building still seemed like an unreachable dream. Until one day I was tired of driving by and I stopped in.
My initial visit was pleasant. I learned so much and we began my profile. I worked with a girl who'd just built with Wayne and also had two young boys. I obviously connected with her right away. She looked at different plans with me and explained a lot of the customizations. Then she went right to work. I hadn't found a lot that I'd liked yet, I hadn't even thought of that yet. The next day she'd sent me lots for sale in the areas I'd requested. I looked them over and for financial reasons just stopped looking.
Months later I had re-worked some financials and wanted to give it another go at planning. I went to reach my new Wayne best-friend and no return emails. I was sad but assumed she was busy..
Time went by again..
Then one day I was tired of driving by (as I drove past it twice a day every day I worked) and decided to stop in. I'd learned that she had accepted a new position elsewhere and wasn't even getting my emails! Devastated, I was asked if I needed anything else. Then was told to come back the next week.
Hold true to my word I went back. I worked with a different girl and although she was nice and dedicated, it just wasn't the same vibe and excited feeling I'd had before.
That day we decided on the Charleston because it was a 4-5 bedroom with lots of storage space.

I fell in love with this plan!
